Walt Cottrell holds degrees in Wildlife Biology, Biology, and Veterinary Medicine. He became a Certified Wildlife Biologist in 1980, and has been a biologist in various locations in North America before becoming a veterinarian. He practiced mixed animal veterinary medicine for 20 years in Vermont and New Hampshire. In 2005 he became Pennsylvania’s first wildlife veterinarian. After retirement in 2013 he became the wildlife veterinarian for the Northeast Wildlife Disease Cooperative, building wildlife health programs throughout New England. In addition to his work with the NWDC, he teaches a wildlife disease course at the University of Vermont.
